The wallet and auto top-up ('under $5, add $20') - and how to change it

Modified on Sat, 11 Jul at 9:32 AM

Some work in KM Hub runs pay-as-you-go instead of drawing on your monthly AI allowance. That work is paid from a small prepaid wallet, and auto top-up keeps the wallet funded so a job never stalls halfway: whenever your balance drops under $5, KM Hub automatically charges $20 to your card and adds it to the wallet. That is the whole rule - under $5, add $20.

Where to see your wallet

  1. Click Settings (the gear at the bottom of the left rail).
  2. In the Settings sidebar, look for Billing & Money and open the Usage tab.

In the Your usage this month section you will find three stats side by side:

  • AI used: what you have drawn from the monthly allowance included with your plan.
  • Fuel used: pay-as-you-go work billed from your wallet this month.
  • Wallet balance: what is currently left in the wallet.

A quick glance at these three numbers tells you how much of your month came out of the plan you already pay for, and how much was extra.

How auto top-up works

With auto top-up on, you never have to think about the wallet. KM Hub watches the balance for you, and the moment it dips under $5, it recharges the wallet with $20 from your card. Top-ups come in small, predictable increments, so there is never a large surprise charge, and pay-as-you-go work keeps flowing without interruption.

How to change it

Auto top-up is a single switch on the Usage tab:

  1. Open Settings and go to the Usage tab.
  2. Find the Auto top-up switch.
  3. Turn it on to let the wallet refill itself, or turn it off to stop automatic charges.

With the switch off, the wallet can run dry, and work that depends on it can stop until the wallet is funded again. If your goal is to control spending rather than to stop it entirely, a better tool is usually the monthly spend cap, which leaves auto top-up working but puts a hard ceiling on the month - see "Set a monthly spend cap and read your usage" in this folder.

Which one should you use?

  • Auto top-up on, no cap: maximum convenience. AI and pay-as-you-go features never pause.
  • Auto top-up on, with a spend cap: convenience plus a guaranteed monthly maximum.
  • Auto top-up off: no automatic charges at all, accepting that wallet-funded work can stop when the balance runs out.
