Connecting Zoho for import (creating a Self Client)

Modified on Sat, 11 Jul at 9:32 AM

Zoho doesn't allow a plain email-and-password sign-in for imports, so KM Hub connects through a Self Client - a one-time set of API credentials you create in Zoho's own console. The import form walks you through every step and links you straight to the right place; this article covers the details and the one timing rule that trips people up.

Open the Zoho import form

  1. Go to Settings > Connect > Import and click the Zoho CRM card.
  2. Or open it directly: https://hub.kivimedia.co/?page=import-zoho.

What the form asks for

  • Data center - a select with US, EU, IN, AU, CA, and JP. Pick the region your Zoho account lives in (the one you see when you sign in to Zoho).
  • Email - optional.
  • Client ID and Client Secret - copied from the Self Client you'll create below.
  • Grant code - generated in Zoho's console. It expires 10 minutes after you generate it, so this goes last.

Create your Self Client

The form shows guided steps with a link that opens the Zoho API Console for you. In short:

  1. Follow the form's link to the Zoho API Console and create a Self Client.
  2. Copy the Client ID and Client Secret it gives you into the KM Hub form.
  3. Back in KM Hub, click the Copy-scope button. This copies the exact scope string the import needs, so you don't have to type it.
  4. In the API Console, generate a grant code using that scope.
  5. Paste the grant code into the KM Hub form right away.

The 10-minute rule

The grant code expires 10 minutes after Zoho generates it. Do everything else first - data center, Client ID, Client Secret - and generate the code as your last step, then paste it immediately. If the code expires before you connect, don't start over: your Client ID and Client Secret are still good, just generate a fresh grant code and paste the new one.

What happens after you connect

Click Connect & check my Zoho account. From here it's the standard consent-first flow: KM Hub scans your Zoho account (contacts, deals, leads, and templates), shows you the counts and the one-time fee range, and imports nothing until you click Approve & import. Your Zoho data is read from your account, never changed, and the connection details are used once and never stored. For the full walkthrough of the scan, estimate, and approval, see Is my data safe? How the import scan, price estimate, and approval work.
