Income reports: P&L, projections, and your tax summary

Modified on Sat, 11 Jul at 10:29 AM

The Income page (you may also see it called The Booking Ledger) gives you a complete picture of the money your business earns: where it came from, how it trends month by month, what your profit actually looks like, and the numbers you will need at tax time. Everything lives on one page, organized into seven tabs.

Open the Income page

  1. Log in to KM Hub at hub.kivimedia.co.
  2. Go to https://hub.kivimedia.co/?page=income. It sits in your finance reports area alongside Expenses, Financial Charts, and Business Reporting.

The seven tabs at a glance

  • Overview: the big-picture summary of your income. Start here for a quick read on how the business is doing.
  • By Category: your income grouped by category, so you can see which types of work bring in the most money.
  • By Month: a month-by-month breakdown. This is the fastest way to spot seasonality, like a strong spring or a quiet January.
  • P&L Statement: a profit and loss view that puts your income and expenses side by side so you can see what you actually keep.
  • Projections: a forward-looking view of income, so you can plan ahead instead of only looking backward.
  • Tax Summary: the figures you will want in front of you when you file, all in one place.
  • By Event Type: income sliced by the kind of event, so you know which event types are worth pursuing harder.

Reading your P&L Statement

The P&L Statement tab is the one to open when you want the honest answer to "am I profitable?" It lays out income against expenses in a statement format, the same shape your accountant expects. Revenue alone can look great while profit quietly shrinks, so make the P&L a monthly habit rather than a year-end surprise.

Getting ready for tax season

Use the Tax Summary tab as your starting point when it is time to file or to send numbers to your accountant. For the deduction side of the story, pair it with the Expenses page, where every expense you log carries a tax category. The more consistently you record expenses during the year, the more useful this tab becomes.

Which tab should I use when?

  • Quick health check: Overview
  • Deciding what services to push: By Category or By Event Type
  • Planning staffing or marketing around busy seasons: By Month
  • Monthly profitability review: P&L Statement
  • Forecasting the months ahead: Projections
  • Filing or meeting your accountant: Tax Summary
